4 Outdoor Activities That Will Make You Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

This past weekend, I went to Rigaud with my friends from WeWork to do something I haven’t done forever… Rock-Climbing. It was a fun day that I won’t forget mainly because last time I rock-climbed, I was terrified. This activity challenged me physically and mentally. In fact,

In this post, I will share with you 4 outdoor activities that will make you step outside your comfort zone.

Rock-Climbing

As mentioned above, Rock-Climbing is an activity that challenges you mentally and physically. Think about it, we are used to walking on our feet and to push/pull with our hands but it is rare that you have to do both at the same time. Rock-Climbing forces you to do so and you need to be able to carry your body weight as well! It is a full-body workout that works muscles from your fingers to your toes. This activity makes you step outside your comfort zone because it is challenging and forces you to think about a solution to keep going up. I highly suggest to do it outside and to do it with my friend Emma that recently launched Climbing Escapes! She’s the only person that I know that offers this service outside. There are several places in Montreal that you can go to Rock-Climb inside such as Allez-Hop, Shakti and Bloc Shop.

Bungee Jumping

Now that is something that I am not ready for and I don’t see myself doing this any time soon. Bungee jumping literally forces you to jump in the face of your fears. Afraid of the heights or not, it teaches you to push through your fear and turn it into courage. Once you jump, there’s a huge feeling of pride and accomplishment afterward that is priceless. If you feel ready to take on this challenge, about 2.5 hours away from Montreal there’s Bungee.ca.  It is the only place in the Americas to experience a 200 ft. head/body dip. Head over their website to know more about this destination.

Marathon Running

The previous activities demand you to get out of your way to step out your comfort zone. This one, not that much! Running improves your health, prevents you from diseases, boost your confidence and may even help you to lose weight. It is obvious that running is not as intense as rock-climbing or bungee jumping, however, have you ever run a marathon? Or a half-marathon? I remember when I wanted to run to get fit… years ago. It was a long-lasting battle between my mind and my body. While running, I would tell myself that I could keep going, however, sometimes I felt my legs were giving up. I remember the time I ran my first 5K… it was amazing… OUT OF THIS WORLD. It felt like a breakthrough and that is why running is an activity that will make you step outside your comfort zone.  Doing a marathon is the ultimate challenge… 42.2 km of pure challenge. Thank you Nike Running App for giving us a free way to get ready for this. I am personally not ready to run a marathon but it on my bucket list of things to achieve in the next 5 years. If you are up for it, there’s the Marathon de Montreal occurring at the end of September.. and you can also register for the Demi Marathon of Longueuil on October 7th.

Sky Diving

In 3-2-1 JUMP! Have you been skydiving? I wonder which one is more intense: Skydiving or Bungee Jumping. Similar to the effects of Bungee Jumping, Skydiving forces you to face your fear but this time… the fall last longer than 5 seconds. I can only imagine how good it must feel to have the sensation of falling and drifting with the chute. According to studies, skydiving gives a life-changing confidence boost! In addition, after the fall, you feel a physical and mental rejuvenation. You feel excited and energetic as your body responds to the adrenaline rush. Moreover, skydivers say that this experience requires a massive control over the mind… now that’s stepping out your comfort zone. Skydiving is an extreme sport because it is a very thrilling but also a challenging experience. Let’s be honest, Jumping from an aircraft can be a bit terrifying for anyone. However, once you do it once and prove to yourself that you were able to do it, you will be able to overcome any other challenges that life throws at you! Near Montreal, the place to do so is Parachute Montreal. Located at only 30 minutes outside the Island of Montreal, this place offers 3 different jumps that will change your life: 9000´, 13500´ and 18000´ in the air. Think you have what it takes? Head over their website!

Stepping outside your comfort zone produces an amazing feeling and the adrenaline rush makes you enjoy it even more. I went to La Ronde earlier this summer and the roller coasters made me step outside my comfort zone. After rock-climbing, I feel that I am taking more and more steps toward living my best life. What about you? What makes you step outside your comfort zone?
