Last week, I was invited to talk and to be part of a dinner organized by the Greek Company Kronos. It happened at Ikanos restaurant in Montreal and it was to promote Kronos canned peaches to Canadian Market.

The event happened at the right time since SIAL, an international food and beverage trade show, that was happening few blocks away. This is the biggest food event of the year in Montreal and they welcome customers, caterers, specialists, buyers and more. Some of the key people in the food industry were present at Ikonos for the dinner!

During the dinner, we were welcomed by Mr. Peter Aylakov, and Mr. Lichounas from Kronos. It was nice to have him there since Kronos is the leader in the Greek canning fruit industry and the largest producer in Europe. Their « peaches are 100% natural and safe, with no preservatives, and low in calories » stated Mr. Michalis Lichouanas, export sales manager from Kronos S.A.

Following the presentation, we had another presentation from a registered dietitian specialized in international nutrition. Marianne Lefebvre M. SC. R.D. presentation was amazing. She covered the base when it comes to why we should be eating fruits and vegetables. In addition, she shared with us different recipes that could be done with the canned peaches such as Spicy Crunchy fruits in the oven, instant ice cream and more.

The dinner was amazing! Chef Constant Mantzas, owner or Ikanos, had a 4-course meal for us inspired and designed to promote the peach. At first, we had succulent canapes: fish ceviche, greek salad, and pork rillette.

The entrée peach and yellow tomato Gazpacho

Our first meal was delicious, we had a creamy cold soup … peach and yellow tomato Gazpacho. In fact, Gazpacho is a cold soup that is refreshing and tasty. It was my first time having an intended cold soup and it was good. Then we got the Jasper grilled catch of the day with green peas, asparagus, and peach gel! This was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. The peach gel was an excellent topping sauce and mixed well with the rest of the dish.

The third dish was a duck magret, star anise reduction, roasted fennel, peaches, and pickled mustard seeds. Tout Simplement Wow! I don’t often write in French but when I do, it is because I can’t seem to find my words. That meal was succulent and was tasty.

To end this in beauty, Chef Mantas served us a chocolate and fleur de sel tart and a peach sorbet.

In overall, this was a great event organized by Nourish Marketing, a Toronto based food Marketing agency.

« Have a peachy day » is a campaign dedicated to the promotion of peach compote, financed with aid from the European Union and Greece.
