23 Jul My Entrepreneurship Journey: Finding Balance (And 3 Tips To Use Today)
For the past couple of months, I’ve been creating content that revolves around lifestyle, social media, and the grind. However, I wanted to share with you all a subject that is important to me and it is my entrepreneurship journey. For the next couple of months, I want to tackle and cover deeper subjects in my blog. The goal of this is for you to understand my reality more, and I hope that what I share will help you in your professional and personal journey.
What is balance?
Balance in life is when you are living in peace and harmony every day. ”Balance comes in physical forms, emotional forms, and a spiritual form. Being in balance may mean something different to each individual.”
My Struggle with Balance
The reason why I initially quit my day job was because I needed balance. My days would start at 6 am and ends at 11 pm, 5 times a week. From going to the gym to having 2 sales meetings a day, working on my clients’ social media and then attend events… I was exhausted every weekend. I decided to take a leap of faith and bet on me. At the time, I wanted to focus on MTLPromos and my personal brand. In my industry (PR & Marketing), I find it difficult to find balance because I have to attend lots of events and I have to network.
When working for yourself, you quickly find out that if you do not do anything, you will struggle to make a living. In my case, it was simple, I had to do business developments (meetings) and be where the action is (attend events). In order to do so, I was active on social media and had 4-5 meetings a day just to put my name out there. I was loving what I was doing, maybe a bit too much. When I was working in sales, our goal was to have 10 meetings a week, working for myself I had between 15-20 a week!
They say when you love your job, you don’t feel that you are working. This is true, you might not feel that you are working but eventually, physically and mentally, you feel tired. I ended up overworking and as much as I wanted to be where the action is, I was also getting exhausted. At that point, I was not able to own my life. I was reactive when in fact, I should be proactive.
My journey to find balance began few months ago. The productivity planner helped me in finding a balance. I started to develop a routine. Content Monday is part of my routine. Finding a routine helped me to be more proactive but also to find a balance in my daily life. I also started to do different things on my term such as answering the phone, replying to message when I feel that I have time or when I feel like it instead of right away like I used to be. Below I share 3 other tricks that will help you find balance.
My 3 tips to find Balance
1 – Disconnecting: You are not disconnecting if you have your phone or computer with you. Even if you are not using it to do some work, it is important to spend time off from any electronics. I saw a big difference in my life balance when I went to Guatemala. I had lost my phone the day that I was leaving and was able to enjoy the trip way more because I didn’t have a phone on me. Disconnecting is important for you because it puts your brain to rest. Use the time off to connect with your friends and family. 2 – Get rid of the negative around you: Like I mentioned above, when working for yourself, you quickly find out that if you do not do anything, you won’t be able to make a living. In addition, if you surround yourself with negative people around you, you will struggle to make a living. There’s nothing wrong to do a cleaning of the people that surround you. They have a lot to do on your thoughts, your actions, and your future. Getting rid of toxic people around you will help you find balance and help you to focus on yourself.
3 – Treat Yourself: Now this is my favorite part, treating yourself makes you feel good about yourself and helps you find a better balance. For me, I love getting a manicure and pedicure, it relaxes me and helps me feel good physically, mentally and spiritually to a certain extent. Traveling does the same for me as well. Try treating yourself as much as you can, it is good for you!
I am curious to know about your ways to find balance. Finding balance is a journey and not a destination. I am not even close to have found my ultimate life balance but I know that every day I am getting better.
