11 Jun A Closer Look At The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel
Ok, before getting into this article I want to point out that my initial goal for this article was to give you 5 hotels that are a great fit for a staycation. However, I realized that I had over 800 words to describe the first one which is the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth so I have to change the plan. On that note, I want to keep the intro I had before because I love it and discover why the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is perfect for your next stay in Montreal.
We all need a break. A break from our everyday routine, a break from work or simply a break to give us the time to relax. However, traveling is a luxury that requires money and time; a mix that usually doesn’t come together. For this reason, a good solution is to do a ”staycation”. Staycations are vacations but instead of leaving your city, you stay! There are many reasons why staycations are a great alternative since it does cost less than going away and you have a chance to rediscover your city. Previously, I wrote about 5 ways to discover your city (Montreal) this Summer. This time, I want to share with you a hotel that I had the pleasure to discover in the last year.
Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel
900 René-Lévesque Blvd W, Montreal, QC H3B 4A5
With over 1400 reviews on Google, averaging 4.5 stars, The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel is one of the hottest hotels in Montreal right now. It is the flagship hotel for the Fairmont and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. What used to be a hotel for celebrities to come in dressed as if they were at the Oscars is now one of the trendiest venues of the city. After going into a year of renovations and transformation, it is not for nothing that it became a destination for locals and tourists.
My first experience at this hotel happened last Summer for the #MTLGO experience, the best day of my life because of National Bank of Canada and Mastercard. I remember walking into this hotel and be amazed at the look, going into my bedroom and see how spacious it was with the beautiful view it has over the city. The next day, I went to try the restaurant that was located in the hotel and I had a delicious breakfast.
Nacarat
“Ziggy Stardust meets 21st century modernity.”
In the past weeks, I’ve been a couple of times to their cocktail bar Nacarat which recently took control of the third-floor terrace of the hotel. This bar has a cocktail card that will please everyone and that is refined by Nader Chabaane, director of Mixology. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM.
PS. The kitchen is open until 1:00 AM during those days!
Rosélys
Another destination in this hotel is the restaurant Rosélys, a beautiful bistro that offers a great breakfast, menu à la carte and good drinks (especially when you show up to Nacarat on a Monday but then realize it is closed, this was a great fallback plan). This restaurant is classy and also offers an afternoon tea. For 37$, you can spend a beautiful afternoon with friends or family and enjoy their gourmet teas, fine sandwiches, and sweets from their Maître Ouvrier de France pastry chef.
Artisans
This beautiful market showcases local products. This specialty grocery store has a beautiful look and offers it all. From takeaway foods, healthy ready-made meals, signature or imported gourmet products to meat and fish counters with a selection of dishes to eat in or take away, it also has a bakery, a pastry shop, a fine chocolate and crêpe station, as well as a concierge station with wrapping and delivery services. (EVERYTHING) The market is open every day from 10AM to 10PM.
The Hotel
As you may notice, I’ve spent most of this blog to talk about the nice restaurants that are located inside this hotel. ( I can’t help it, I love food). I kept the best for last because the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth has over 10 different suites that are available for your next stay. Of course, they do have the typical Junior and One Bedroom Suite that includes a television, a King or Queen bed and more.
However, to keep it original and to keep the flavor of Montreal, the hotel has suites named after popular areas of the city. The spacious 1,200 sq.f. St-Henri Suite has a kitchenette and dining room for six, two bedrooms with king size bed in each, two bathrooms and a powder room! The 1,100 sq.f. Hampstead suite, on the other hand, has one king size bed, a beautiful view and also gives you the opportunity to connect to another bedroom. Other suites are named after iconic areas of Montreal such as the Griffintown, Plateau, Mile-End, Westmount and more. To learn more about these suites, head over here. I personally have an eye on the John Lennon and Yoko Ono Suite. See what Global News had to say about it here.
The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is more than a hotel, is it a destination. Even if you do not want to stay there for the night, you should pass by and discover the restaurants that they have. They did a beautiful job by making it modern and trendy.
