11 Jun How To Start A Blog
Many would argue that blogging is dead but I think otherwise. I’ve created this blog 8 months ago and I’ve seen an interesting growth in my business life, but also in my personal life. Blogging for me is more than just a hobby now, it is a way for me to be sure that I remain consistent but also, makes me discover new things about being an entrepreneur, a foodie, and a Montreal’s citizen. For this blog post, I don’t want to convince you on why you should create one, (because obviously, you become a better writer, you inspire others, you become more confident, etc.) but instead, I want to share with you different tools that can help you get started with your own blog.
What To Write About?
First thing first, you need to decide on what you want to blog about. The beauty of it is that you can write about ANYTHING that you want. Your blog becomes your own personal diary that you want to share it with the world. As you can see, I like to write about my lifestyle which revolves around entrepreneurship, food and traveling. For you, it can be gaming, beauty, fashion, you decide. Once that you decided on what you want to write about, you can go to the next step which is where do I host it.
Where To Host Your Blog
You need a platform to host your blog, a place where your blog will live. There are free and paid options to host your personal blog. You can host it on Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, and more. I personally use WordPress because I find it easy and I love the templates that are available to make it look professional. (If you are looking for a template, I take a look at Theme Forest, they have a lot of options ranging from 19$ to 59$).
The theme of your blog can make a big difference in the way your content is showcased to others and for your credibility. A client of mine, Roxane, used to have her blog looking like this, and now look likes this! The content is the same on both websites, but the aesthetics of the second one makes it look more professional.
Links to Hosting Website
- WordPress
- Wix
- Squarespace
- Medium – if you just want to write and not have your personal and customizable website.
Choosing a host for your blog also mean that you need to find a name for it. Your name is a great choice but sometimes, you want to find something different and the website Namechecker will help you find the perfect name. In fact, this website verifies the name that you want for your blog on the Internet (.com, .ca, .net) but also on social media. (Try to get the similar name for all platform as much as possible).
Write Your First Blog
Once you have found what you want to write about and that you found where you want to host your blog, this step is the most essential. Often, people put a lot of pressure on themselves when it comes to writing their first blog post. I personally suggest to not care about what other people might think, but instead, write your first blog the way that you feel is the most authentic to yourself.
To help you with writing your first blog, here are few options that can help you.
- Grammarly – Will make sure that you don’t have any spelling mistakes
- YoastSEO – The ultimate blogging plugin available on WordPress to be sure that your blog is SEO Friendly and readable.
Once your blog is written, you can complement it with either your pictures or pictures that you curate online and on social media. Pictures will give more aesthetics to your blog (if needed).

Once that is done, POST IT. You have officially made your first blog, now, let’s do it again. Try to be as consistent as possible but do not put pressure on yourself on the number of blog posts that you need to write for a week or a month. Be sure that you write quality articles and that you are staying relevant and authentic to yourself. And then, repeat.
That being said, being consistent with your blog will bring you new opportunities that you usually don’t expect. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need to get started on your blog!
