09 Jul Why You Should Get On IGTV LIVE!
It’s been a bit over 3 weeks that Instagram has launched IGTV their new app for watching long-form, vertical video. This new feature is amazing and I enjoy it not only as a consumer but as a creator as well. Every Monday, I publish content on Social Media and now I integrated IGTV videos in my Content Monday ritual. Every week, I want to share a video that is my own show and cover a few key elements from my week. Now, it seems that not everybody is aware with IGTV so what’s good with IGTV?
- Free to use
- Videos can be up to 1 hour long
- Anyone can be a creator
- Standalone App that is also available within Instagram
- You can upload from your computer
- ONLY VERTICAL VIDEOS
”We’ve made it simple, too. Just like turning on the TV, IGTV starts playing as soon as you open the app. You don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests. You can swipe up to discover more — switch between ‘For You’, ‘Following’, ‘Popular’ and ‘Continue Watching’. You can also like, comment and send videos to friends in Direct.” Instagram says.
That being said, I want to go more in depth in this article to share with you why I believe that IGTV is a platform that you must leverage NOW.
IGTV is the new Youtube
IGTV has the potential to be as big as Youtube because of the network that Instagram currently has. With over 1 Billion users on the app (1.57B on Youtube), IGTV makes it easier for your current followers to watch your video on this new app. I currently have about 3.5K followers on Instagram and for the past year, it has been a struggle for me to transfer this attention towards my Youtube channel. People that love Youtube are not the same as the one that loves Instagram, me first! I spend a lot of time on Instagram (and it is the best platform to reach me if ever you want to have my attention) and I am not a big Youtube consumer.
Now, with the video being vertical, it forces you to focus on delivering better content because you have less space to ”waste” but also, the person watching it basically have no choice to see it all.
In addition, not many people took advantage of this new platform to create their own content. While looking at different videos, I noticed that IGTV would show me different videos that were published in the past 2-3 days, which means that there is a lack of content on it right now.
There’s no pressure for your content
I might be crazy but creating videos on the vertical and on the horizontal involves a different creative process. For some reasons, I feel less pressure to create a video on a vertical because I am used to it. Think about vertical content as a long story that doesn’t need to be cut. It is more authentic, on the moment and for me, I feel that it is more natural and less cinematic. By looking at what my friends and others are sharing on their IGTV, is it obvious that the time of work behind every video is different than the creators on Youtube. This might change in the future but for now, your phone and no edits could possibly help you become a new sensation on IGTV.
