14 Feb Instagram Bug? Accounts Are Losing Followers And They’re Not Happy About It
I woke up today to the news that a lot of users on Instagram have lost their followers. Few friends messaged me telling me about how they have lost followers. I would personally be mad if I was at over 10K and lost just enough to be under it. However, I am safe and so are my other social media accounts such as MTLPromos, LeBrunchSquad and more
When Instagram deletes fake accounts, the name on the street for this event is ”The Purge”. However, Instagram claims that what happened last night was a bug and they are working on it. Between you and I, last time Instagram had a bug it was the ”new” and ”improved” feed that was similar to Tinder and they fixed it in 15 minutes.
We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Popular accounts such as Kevin Harts and Ellen Degeneres lost over 900 000 followers overnight. The glitch also caused other known celebrity Instagramers, including Ariana Grande and Katy Perry, to lose millions of followers.
Who should really worry about this?
The brands that have been working with influencers that believed in their numbers when it was probably fake at the end of the day. For the other accounts that lost a lot of followers, you can simply leave it like this or go forward and buy more followers (I am sure these websites are doing well today…).
The companies that have someone managing their social media and telling them that they are growth hackers when in fact they are probably using strategies that are not organic.
In fact, your followers’ number shouldn’t be what you focus on. Instead, focus on creating quality content that reflects you and stays authentic. A year ago, I wrote a blog post on 3 important metrics to consider over the number of followers and likes.
