Live Your Best Life By Listening to Yourself

For the second weekend in a row, I took time off for myself by going up north. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t often take time off and I personally find joy in working (what can I say, I love what I do) but it is important to have a great balance for your mind, body, and soul. In this blog post, I want to share different tips and tricks that will help you understand more to yourself.

Pay Attention To Your Body

It is important to be self-conscious and to resonate with yourself. Listening to your body means that you understand when to take time off, you understand the different signals it sends you and most importantly,  use it to be better in your daily life.

Let’s take a closer look into needing to know and understand your body warning signs. For me, my main signs are fatigue, loss of focus and headache. I don’t realize sometimes that I am tired until all these signs hit me. I am a strong believer that we all have our optimum time to work, most effective time to sleep and wake up and more so it is important that you know yourself. I’ve been aware of my body only for over a year now. Since I left my day job, I was always working. I had no choice, I had to pay the bills and I had to make sure that I was not missing any opportunities… #TeamNoSleep. However, on the long term this is not the best for me, I get tired and never seemed to get to the next level. Until I understood more about what my body needed, how to balance it all out and how to work smarter.

Sleep Better

As mentioned above, I am a STRONG believer that 8 hours sleeping nights are not for everyone but it is important to get quality sleep! When I talk to my friends and I asked them what are there tricks to have a good night of sleep, they often tell me that they go when they feel like passing out or to sleep until they wake up by themselves. People tend to have a misconception about how to sleep effectively. If you want to live your best life, you have to master the activity that you do the most which is sleep!

If you’d like to sleep better, try to go to sleep and to wake up at the same time every day. By doing so, your body is getting used to it and your quality of sleep will increase. Another tip for you to sleep better is to avoid any backlight electronics while in bed! In fact, even me I am getting to a point where I don’t even look at my phone when I lie down in bed and saw a difference right away! Televisions, cell phones and e-readers … get em out your bedroom.

It might sound contradictory but there are also apps that can help you better. I discovered them from Mashable. f you want more control over your wake-up time, Apple’s Bedtime, available as part of your Clock app, works similarly to Sleep Cycle, but lets you set an exact time for rising. You can select which days of the week you want your alarm to go off (weekdays only, weekends only, etc.). Choose how many hours you want to sleep, and the app will tell you when to head to bed to wake up on time. It will also give you a push notification before your bedtime.

Apple BedTime – This app helps you get want more control over your wake-up time. Part of your Clock app, it lets you set a time for you to wake up and work back from it. It will also give you a push notification before your bedtime.

Headspace: Meditation – This app does guided meditation and assist you with mindfulness. While using this app, you receive push notifications throughout the day to remind you to meditate. Meditation has been shown to help people stress less, focus more and even sleep better. See more on how this app works here:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CS76mK58urI

I could talk a lot more about how to sleep better and how to listen to yourself but I am keeping the rest of this for my personal book on How To Live Your Best Life! (Will be ready for March 2019!)
