11 Dec The Real Cost Of Leveling Up
Two years… it’s been two years that I’ve been working for myself and fully focus on the growth of myself. Over the past two years, I’ve learned a lot and shared with you different realization and lessons. Subjects like finding balance, things I wish I knew before and what it is to be a content creator gives you an idea of my reality. However, there’s a moment where you feel that you must take it to the next level, that you must ”level up”. In this blog post, I want to share with you different affirmations I realized when it comes to leveling up.
Before moving forward, I want to be sure that we are all on the same page. Leveling up means that you are making moves that will bring you in another ball court. An example of leveling up would be the move I did from working that 9-5 to become an entrepreneur.
Trust Issues
Over the past two years, I have lost trust and empathy by leveling up. It might sound harsh but in fact, I realized that most people around you are there for a reason. I trust my day one without any doubt. However, anybody that came in my life over the past 2 years, I have doubt. People often see something in you and they stay around to either learn from you or to benefit from it. I have learned this the hard way and by leveling up, I have to pay more attention to my instincts. Leveling up will cause ‘drama’ in your life and you must cut some people too. Some people are good in your life up to a certain level, then you must go on and move forward.
Sleepless Nights
When you are young, they teach you that you must sleep 8-10 hours a night. The more successful you become, I feel that 10 hours sleep is a myth. I thought that things would change when you are at the success level that I want. Unfortunately, I saw an interview of Michael B. Jordan and he says that 5 hours sleep are GREAT when they happen! 24 Hours in a day is not enough sometimes and you must take time where you can take it.
By leveling up over the past few months, I realized that it came in detriment of my sleep. From working on my client’s work to edit my personal videos, I realized that the work I need to do to attain the next level has an impact on my sleep. There are alternatives to that, such as waking up earlier, manage your time better and more. You will definitely need to do some actions that will take you outside your comfort zone.
Getting Outside Of Your Comfort Zone
Your comfort zone was made in order for you to step outside of it. By leveling up, I noticed that you start doing things that you may not always be used to do. The moves that you make are different and you quickly realized that if you want to level up, you have to take the risks. There was a time for me where I had to accept deals and to work with people that made me feel different. There was nothing bad to it but I realized that I was not confident in what I was doing because it was new for me. However, magic really happens when you step outside that zone.
When I used to work at Convergia, we had to make hundreds of cold calls. At the time, I remember being scared of simply picking up the phones to do cold calls. However, the day I started making those calls, I saw a difference. Leveling up will take you outside your comfort zone and put you in a situation where you might be lost.
Losing Yourself
Leveling up will challenge you and put you in a situation that you may or may not be ready for. Few things happen to me this year where I feel that I was on the edge. On the edge of cracking up, on the edge of simply giving up on my dreams simply because I felt that I didn’t belong where I was. Then you realize… why rush…why so much pressure on ourselves. My friend Martin shared earlier on his Facebook an extract from a book that says: ” We’re so stressed out these days, because we believe everything needs to happen right now. We forget that everything happens in perfect timing. (…) You can’t plant the seed and instantly pull it out to see if anything is growing..” From the book Think It.
Life throws you lemons because it knows you can make lemonade out of it, so make it happen.
