03 Sep I went viral on Tik Tok (1.2 Million Views)
Last week I was invited by my friend John Rothman to an event at the Orange Julep. Turo and Carcade were doing a friendly meetup and it was the perfect occasion for me to meet other car fanatics. I am personally not a car person but let’s be honest, you don’t need to be one to love a Lamborghini Hurracan Coupe, the Mercedes Benz G-Wagon and a Rolls Royce Ghost. Especially when they are ALL aligned in front of you. Looking at all these cars, I had an idea for a funny video that I could share on TikTok.
What is Tik Tok?
If you are not familiar with Tik Tok, it is a social media video app where you can share your short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. Tik-Tok reminds me of Vine, an app where you can create and share short-form video that are six-second-long. Here’s my video:
I had the app for less than 2 weeks (thanks to my friend Elias) and challenged myself to post a video a day. I posted the video and right away, I started getting comments on it. The comments had mixed feelings, few got the jokes while others were wondering what was my car. An hour later I was at 1000 views… then 5000 when I decided to go to bed. I sleep with my phone on airplane mode and when I woke up my phone was blowing up and the video was at 60 000 views! Took a shower and it was at 100 000 views and it only went up from here! I went from 10 followers to 1300 in less than 12 hours! As I am writing this blog post, I am still receiving notifications from Tik Tok saying that I have new followers, new comments and new likes.
In addition, Tik Tok permits their user to take sounds from videos to use it for theirs, 2 other people decided to make their own version. Here they are:
My video is currently at 1.2 million views, over 178 000 likes and 800 comments. It is safe to say that the video went viral which now classifies me as a “Viral Content Creator”! Will I be able to make it again? Am I a one-hit wonder? We’ll see but for now, go follow my journey on TikTok – @iamstevedaniels.
