You Like Food? Then MTLÀTABLE Is For You! Montréal À Table 2018

When it comes to food, Montreal has it all. There is so much ethnicity in Montreal that it is almost impossible to not try other cultures food. In fact, in a single day, you could go from an Asian brunch at Thazard to a Banh Mi at a Vietnamese restaurant and end your day at Meli Melo for a Haitian dish.  However, if you are a foodie like me, trying all these restaurants will eventually hurt your wallet. Fortunately for all of us, Tourisme Montreal is bringing back MTLÀTABLE for a 7th edition this year from November 1st to the 11th. For 11 days, you can try 150 of Montreal’s best restaurants at a reduced rate. In fact, all these restaurants will be offering table d’hôte dinner menus at three great prices ($23, $33 or $43), as well as a $17$ brunch in some restaurants!

What restaurants are part of MTLÀTABLE?

It is quite tough to choose a restaurant when you have a choice of 150… (it is literally the Netflix syndrome for a foodie). However, to make it easier for you, the MTLÀTABLE’s website has an option to choose a restaurant for you according to what you are feeling like. At first, you decide the price that you want to pay. Then you type in what you are looking for and the different options that you are looking for (such as vegan restaurant, BYOB, a brunch place, and more…). Followed by your choice of cooking type and the date that you would like to go, the service then suggests you different locations that fit your criteria.

For the sake of this blog, I decided to give it a shot. I went with 33$, looking for cozy, that has vegetarian options and I don’t really care about the cooking type. Finally, the date would be this Friday. The search option came back to me with 2 choices: Chez Bouffe Café Bistro and La Khaima! I’ve never tried Café Bistro but I did try La Khaima last year and it was delicious. I think this is definitely the right option when it comes to what I was looking for.

On a side note, wouldn’t that be amazing if there was a website in Montreal that was helping you with your restaurant choices like that all year long? It was my goal at first with MTLPromos.com but I quickly realized that it takes way more time and work than what one could think.

What are my favorite restaurants in the list of 150?

In the downtown area, I would highly suggest giving a try to Venice. This restaurant has refreshing dishes and during their 23$ 3 course-meal services they have AMAZING options such as Quebec butternut squash and coconut soup with turmeric, ginger and cayenne paper (Vegan), Korean beef tacos and a gluten-free double chocolate brownie with walnuts and vanilla ice cream. LOV is also a great place to go. While the name stands for Local, Organic and Vegetarian, this restaurant focuses on botanical cuisine based on three principles: Vegetables, Freshness, and Superfoods!

In Griffintown, you have to give a try to Asado! The Chef Phil Tees is incredible and he was also one of the first people in that industry that invited me to try the food at his restaurant at the time. For 43$, you have a 3-course meal that includes Quebec duck rillettes, Quebec pork slowly roasted over maple wood fire and more options. I’ve tried it last week and it is official, ASADO definitely brings this authentic South American way of grilling meat over an open fire to Montréal.

In the Plateau, you must give a shot to La Virunga, the perfect fusion between the African culture and Quebec’s gastronomy. Offering plantain velouté, African lentil stew with turmeric and warm goat shoulder as options during their 3-course meal, this restaurant is a destination. I’ve gone to this restaurant two times in the past and always had a great experience and great food from chef Maria and her daughter Zoya. To have this menu at 33$ is a CRAZY DEAL that you do not want to miss.

While this article is not even sponsored by MTLÀTABLE, I personally believe that it is one of the best food events that Montreal has to offer. It is not every day that you are able to try these restaurants for an affordable price. Enjoy it! Take pictures and let me know which one you tried!

P.S. In partnership with Swiss, MTLÀTABLE has a contest that is giving you 2 different price!

  • A meal for two people that includes: two set menus (valued at $23, $33 or $43 each, depending on the restaurant), beverages (wine, beer, coffee, etc. to a maximum of $60 before taxes), taxes and tip;
  • A gift offered by Swiss International Air Lines valued at $75 that includes: a bottle of Swiss wine, an assortment of chocolates typically served on SWISS flights and a Montréal luggage tag.

Bonne Appétit!
